03 6.0 loud thump from intake""""LOUD THUMP"""

I VE GOT AN 03 6.0 PSD ALL STOCK... STRAIGHT PIPED EXHAUST THATS IT... NEW IPR TRUCK SUPPOSABLY HAS EGR DELETE KIT.... JUMP STARTING A BUDDYS TRUCK TODAY IT WAS IDLEING FINE AND RAN GREAT ALL MORNING... STANDING THERE THE TRUCK STARTED TO MAKE A VERY LOUD THUMPING NOISE.. REMOVE IC PIPE TO LOOK DOWN THE INTAKE ELBOW STARTED THE TRUCK AND IT GOT LOUDER. IF YOU START THE TRUCK WITH THE IC PIPE OFF AND PUT YOUR HAND IN FRONT OF IT.. YOU CAN FEEL IT PUSH AIR AT YOUR HAND. TRUCK FIRES UP FINE MOTOR SOUNDS FINE EXCEPT FOR THIS BIG THUMPING. FASTER YOU REV FASTER THE THUMPING GETS.. SO WHERE IT SUCKS AIR DOWN ITS ACTUALLY PUSHING IT BACK AT ME ALSO......... VERY CONFUSED IM HOPING ITS NOT VALVETRAIN..... MAYBE EGR RELATED... AS IN CRACKED U PIPE OR SOMETHING I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO........

Sounds like a rocker came off,or valve problem.

I think a thread like this was posted not long ago and they wound up having a push rod in the shape of an S.

strange part is it was just idleing.. started slow then got louder. truck starts fine fires right up.... some one is saying it might be the egr system leaking into the intake..... any ideas about that im really hoping its not valvetrain....

what EGR delet kit does it have ?

i dont know what egr kit it has the previuos owner did. i do know the egr valve is still in it and plugged in...

i might call bs on the egr delete then .. it is still a possibility ,, but questionable IMHO

Some people will do that to avoid the code being thrown.

03 won't throw a code ,, but the fact thatthe egr is inplace and plugged is a little iffy , unless it was a simple weld up job I think it is still functioning

well found the thumping issue... a rocker on the passenger side was split right in half... pilled both valve covers and found the pass side exhast vale rocker had a big split right up the middle....so off to ford to hope they have the part.. im stuck here in tuscon right now so jim click ive heard is one of the better places to vist for psd parts... and i am also concerned about the egr delete kit.. when you look down into my intake its bad... just coated in black goo oil sludge carbon discusting mess.. i figure thats the reason my truck is also throwing ait 2 codes constantly.

i fix one thing and another breaks. wonder whats next.. .....so does any one have any advice on miracle in a bottle cures for cleaning up my intake.... i mean ive decarbonized gas motors but what can be done on a diesel.. also sludge. how do i flush this motor out really well. someone said a couple of quarts of atf in the oil run it and change it.... any advice thanks so much for the help...

good find .. what did the egr look like ? does the valve still move up and down ?

what codes does it throw ,, ? ? does the cel come on?
